I've been getting more and more requests for an updated behind-the-scenes look at our setup. We haven't changed equipment in over a year so I wasn't ready to do one. Well, to celebrate PodShow's name change to MEVIO [1], we changed our set. In this episode, I walk you through the new set, and explain the setup we use to produce GeekBrief.TV. It's in black and white because we're not quite finished and I thought it would be fun to do a kind of partial reveal. I forgot to mention the lapel microphone I use. It's listed below. That iPhone holder I had stuck to my head on Brief 329 is a Naja King [1]. It's a flexible holder that will wrap around anything including your neck for hands-free viewing on a plane. It also holds on to the iPhone really tight, but that doesn't mean you should twirl it like I did. It isn't meant to do that. This fetch robot [2] started showing up on blogs Monday. It senses when a ball is placed in the launcher and automatically sends it in the fetch direction. In the video, Jerry the dog replaces the ball. We know the dogs name, but we haven't been able to find who makes the device. Kyocera makes our favorite mobile broadband router and they've just updated it. It's an interesting idea, but it needs additional features to make it truly practical. John Biggs is right [1]. 2007 was a dead year for gadgets. My Top 10 Gadget List for 2007 [2] has some of my lifetime favorite innovations, but it would be a major challenge for me to create a list for '07 that extends much further beyond 10. At any rate, my top 10 is pretty predictable for regular GBTV viewers because it's stuff I talked about over and over throughout the year. Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 Media Edition [3] (I had to take a coffee break after typing that), includes an application called Expression Media (formerly iView). It's an application that visually catalogs over 120 file formats and keeps up with where media assets are stored, even if those assets are offline, say on a DVD. I'm really excited to learn more about Expression. It's already available for XP and Vista users, so I'd like to hear from anyone who is using it. Vincent Laforet's short film that we mentioned yesterday [1] is online at Canon [2]. He used the 5D Mark II to shoot the film. The behind the scenes footage is online at SmugMug [3]. We've all been waiting to see a real live phone built on Android, an open source platform. Today, T-Mobile, HTC and Google showed us the G1 [4]. NetShare is an iPhone app that allows you to use your iPhone as a modem to connect a laptop to the Internet. It's been on and off the App Store. XamBox [1] may be the single best intermediary device between analog and digital I've ever seen. Paper documents, receipts and business cards are scanned in and dropped in a box. Software converts the paper to PDFs and catalogs in what order the hard copies are stored in the box. When the box is full, you label it, seal it and store it. If you need the document again, the software will tell you exactly where to look, or you can just print a fresh copy. Ziszor! [2] (with an exclamation point like Yahoo!), is a portable handheld shredder that shreds up to 5 layers of paper at a time. I'm thinking about a year on the road so small and portable is on my mind. Litepanels Micro [3] is a consumer version of what the pros use for lighting faces. It's LED so it doesn't use much energy and it doesn't put off much heat. It fits on a small DV camera and runs on four AA batteries. There is a new portable version [4] of Guitar Hero that will be released next month. Going through boxes of stuff to sell on eBay, I came across our very first digital camera. It's a Vivitar ViviCam 3000. It shoots .77 Megapixel images and has 1 MB of internal storage and I want your suggestions for what I should do with it.
